Final Tie
Nottingham Forest reached the Final after drawing lots with West
Bromwich Albion
| Wednesday 31st July at Eton Park,
Burton upon Trent |
| Burton Albion 2 |
Nottingham Forest 3 |
| Farrell (21), Stride (69) |
Antoine-Curier (26, 30), Groves (80) |
Forest’s reserve side landed the Bass Charity Vase Trophy
in 2002 for a second successive year by recording a hard fought victory over Nigel Clough’s Burton Albion at their Eton Park ground.
The Reds ran out 3-2 winners but only after Albion had twice come from behind to level matters.
Mikael Antoine-Curier gave Forest the lead after 25 minutes only to see that cancelled out by former Notts County man Sean Farrell.
Antoine-Curier restored the one-goal advantage 10 minutes before half-time but Albion hit back again, this time through Darren Stride.
It was left to a member of Forest’s Academy squad, Tom Groves, to grab what proved to be the winner. The 17 year old scored 10 minutes from time to kill of brave Albion’s challenge.
